Social Networks effects on schooling

When I started thinking about how would social networking affect schooling, all I could think about was spending too much time on them. Never once did I stop to think about harm they could cause to innocent people. I did some research and found out that about 88% of teens say they see mean comments on social networking sites all the time. This video below maybe a great way for people to realize the effects of their actions.

I don’t know how anyone can watch that video and not feel horrible for that poor kid. He did nothing wrong, he did nothing that made him deserve this. These cruel people who cyber bullied Ryan not only made him have a horrible time in his schooling and made him not apply himself fully. I’m sure they never once thought they would make a little 13 year old boy take his life because of a joke.
I found some facts on http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/cyber-bullying-statistics.html about cyber bullying that I thought I would share.
  • Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying.
  • More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online.
  • Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet.
  • Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs.
I know cyber bullying wasn’t my topic; however it is a way the social networks are taking away from our schooling. It makes the kids forget about schooling and in Ryan’s case think about his life.
