Social networking at the work place

I found this video while researching for my paper. It talks about how people are getting fired from their jobs because of social networking websites. They are posting things saying that they are bored at work and what not. And their bosses are reading these statuses.  The video also says that recently this reason for unemployment has really started to jump. If they spent that time making statuses  towards their work than they would not have to worry about losing their jobs.

Using the internet while at work is a problem in its self. It is distracting to everyone not just you but your co- workers too. You are taking away from the work atmosphere, and making it more casual. Yes work to some feels like a home because everyone there seems like family. However, would you purposely let your family’s business fail? I don’t think so, so why would you do that to people who are just like family. You are not getting paid to go onto social networking websites, you are paid to work.

Also, being on social networking websites at work takes away from the persistency of your work. You may be able to finish all of your work and be online. However, there is no way it is as good as it would be if you weren’t multi- tasking. While researching I have found that people multi-tasking is another huge reason people are getting fired. They cannot perform the task given to them because they are too busy with social networking sites. Also, now lately bosses of companies have been getting a program that allows them to see what everyone is doing. This way they make sure they are working and not fooling around.
