A social networking boom?

Social networking had really popularized over the years. This picture above really proves that this is not just an opinion it is a fact. It has almost doubled since they started the survey, this is insane. Why is social networking becoming so popular? There was another fact that I read while researching and it was absolutely shocking. The statistic was that 35- 54 age group is the largest age group on social networking sites. To me that is absolutely disgusting, what are people those ages doing on social networking sites?

Now days you always have to have your guard up when someone older adds you on a website. You never know their intentions. The sad thing is that most people won’t do anything but there is the few that will and those are the ones that make you worry about everyone else. This world is already not safe as it is, and now with the use of social networks it is becoming a much more dangerous place. For predators you are just a click away from anyone viewing you. Anyone can see you and just search you and find all of your information, no matter how safe you think you are being.

Also I always wonder if social networks have anything to do with how bad our economy is doing. So many people are obsessed with social networks that they become a part of their everyday life. When they are not on them they feel empty and that they are missing a lot of things. The truth is they are not, they are taking away from their work and focusing on other things that will not help you get far in your future. So many people lose their jobs due to social networking and it just makes me wonder if our economic hard time has anything to do with social networks and how popular they are becoming.

  1. Whoa! ages of 35-54? that is really creepy. I also think sometimes what social networks are doing to our lives, maybe it really does make people lazy and dependent on them. That could be why the econ is doing terrible.

  2. I think you have a really good point about how the increase in social networking may have a connection to the economy. Since people have nothing else to do it seems they spend a lot more time focusing on networks then on finding jobs, I don't know if there are any actual facts about this? Also it is very true how you have to keep such a guard up while being on a network, people are creeping or will make fun of each other.
