what is this thing we call privacy?

You may think you have privacy when you set privacy options on you social networking accounts but these are not true. There is no such thing as privacy on the internet, you submit something for one person and the whole world can see it. Lately it has even gotten worst, you can Google search anyone and all of this information comes up about them. You can see all of these pictures that are on their wall or profile. Also with just a click you can see what sports they play and their stats.

To me that is crazy, I don’t remember ever signing anything that says they can post pictures of me playing volleyball. And they have all of my stats from playing. Also, they have quotes that I said. I find this very concerning not because I said anything bad but the fact that I said this to one person and now the whole world can see it. And they know what I look like even without being my friend any one can search me and who knows what.

I goggled myself and found so much information about me, things that I said that I don’t even remember ever saying. I understand that people have online articles and what not but I never knew that everyone could read them. I believe that the main thing we need to do is become a lot more aware of what is happening to us due to social networks. So many times we are so fast to post a picture, but we have to stop and think about how this will reflect us.

Are social networking sites causing us to be less personal?

Social networking too many has become such an addiction that it seems just like a part of life. So many times people will log onto the internet and not even notice that they first check their social networking site before starting to work. This is something that has really mad a lot of people not work as hard as they could be. So many times people don’t even realize they were just on a site for over an hour. And the feel that as soon as they get something done they deserve a reward and go on another social networking site.

This is much more with girls than it is with guys but girls will say super mean stuff to other girls through social networking sites. They are things that no one would say it if they had to say it face to face. I believe that social networking sites are making us cowards when it comes to facing our problems. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen two girls in the same place just talking crap about each other but neither of them will confront the other. However as soon as they are home they will post something on their social networking site.

Also, these sites are taking precious moments away from us. When it was someone’s birthday before social networking sites, you would call or text them to tell them happy birthday. Now all you do is write it on their wall. I can honestly say I cannot remember everyone who wished me a happy birthday, all I remember is the calls or gifts I got. These sites are really talking nice gestures and throwing them away. It doesn’t really mean anything if you can post something one someone’s wall, it proves that they are not that important to get a call. Birthdays have lost their meanings and are not as celebrated as they use to be.

A social networking boom?

Social networking had really popularized over the years. This picture above really proves that this is not just an opinion it is a fact. It has almost doubled since they started the survey, this is insane. Why is social networking becoming so popular? There was another fact that I read while researching and it was absolutely shocking. The statistic was that 35- 54 age group is the largest age group on social networking sites. To me that is absolutely disgusting, what are people those ages doing on social networking sites?

Now days you always have to have your guard up when someone older adds you on a website. You never know their intentions. The sad thing is that most people won’t do anything but there is the few that will and those are the ones that make you worry about everyone else. This world is already not safe as it is, and now with the use of social networks it is becoming a much more dangerous place. For predators you are just a click away from anyone viewing you. Anyone can see you and just search you and find all of your information, no matter how safe you think you are being.

Also I always wonder if social networks have anything to do with how bad our economy is doing. So many people are obsessed with social networks that they become a part of their everyday life. When they are not on them they feel empty and that they are missing a lot of things. The truth is they are not, they are taking away from their work and focusing on other things that will not help you get far in your future. So many people lose their jobs due to social networking and it just makes me wonder if our economic hard time has anything to do with social networks and how popular they are becoming.

Social networking at the work place

I found this video while researching for my paper. It talks about how people are getting fired from their jobs because of social networking websites. They are posting things saying that they are bored at work and what not. And their bosses are reading these statuses.  The video also says that recently this reason for unemployment has really started to jump. If they spent that time making statuses  towards their work than they would not have to worry about losing their jobs.

Social Networks effects on schooling

When I started thinking about how would social networking affect schooling, all I could think about was spending too much time on them. Never once did I stop to think about harm they could cause to innocent people. I did some research and found out that about 88% of teens say they see mean comments on social networking sites all the time. This video below maybe a great way for people to realize the effects of their actions.

My thoughts on social technologies

Hello everyone,

This video above is a great example and eye opener to the problems we are going to soon be facing. We have a lot to change in our future if we want to make it as bright as those who are older than us. Adults now days are not use to having all the social networks we have and adapted to. Many adults all they have is an email. This researcher’s say is the best way to go in life, with only an email.

Many researchers believe that because within the recent years Americans have been going through a lot of economical tough times. Many Americans do not have jobs and I believe one reason is due to social networks. I believe that many social networking websites are to blame. So many people get caught up in there social networks they forget about the real world. In an article I read they said that in a few years we will have lost all of our communications skills.

Though people argue we gain a lot to form social networks, all I can say is it is nowhere equal to what we lose. Like I said earlier we will lose our communication skill because we will be used to just talking through a computer. Also, this will affect us getting a job. No one wants someone who has no communication skills. Also, you can be really tough on the web but can’t always back up your actions. Also, you can post a lot of inappropriate things on these networks. You have to decide how you want to be perceived. And just think is it worth losing your job or future over?
